Stay in your lane

“Stay in your lane. Run your own race. Nothing good happens when you compare and compete. God does not judge you according to the talents of others. He judges you according to yours. His yardstick for measuring faithfulness is how faithful you are with your own gifts. You are not responsible for the nature of your gift.  But you are responsible for how you use it.”

I shared this post on the gram (Instagram) about a year ago. This was during a time when I was in a hurry to achieve a whole lotta things in my life. I was struggling to keep my sanity in check!

Why? Because I was doing a lot of comparisons and secretly competing with people just because i wanted to be where they were.  And trust me nothing good came out of it! I completely wasted my time and energy doing things that were not meant for me. I lost focus on the things that was meant for me. I was not  happy and sadly I was never satisfied with anything I did. I felt I needed to be perfect at everything.

Then one day, i chanced upon this message i posted on Instagram from a devotional on the Bible app and it stuck to me ever since! I think this was God speaking directly to me. You see, I wasn’t staying in my lane. I was looking at what other people were doing and got distracted. I thought I could also do what they were doing! I wanted same too…but i soon forgot that it was a process that led them to where they were! I immediately forgot that I was a “badass” at something and started wasting my energy and time on things that were just not me!

I guess the point I’m trying to make is that we all have our purposes in life! What a boring world this would be if we all had the same personalities or had the same jobs or wore the same clothes… are you catching my drift? No? 😐

Be unique! Don’t waste your time and copy someone because you wish you were that person or had that person’s life! You may not be happy if you were in that person’s shoes. It takes time and a lot of practice to be good at something.  Even Beyonce wasn’t built in a day sweetheart!

I’m running my own race at my own pace (damn girl!! Did I just rhyme!). I am staying in my lane and hope you will too.

Don’t be in a rush to be successful! When the time is right, it will come…and oh it will be magnificent! Just continue being you and let the universe do it’s work.

We are all in a journey in this thing called life. Don’t run because someone is running. Walk if you have to! Hell! Crawl if you have to. Don’t get distracted by anyone! You will still get to your destination.

Stay in your beautiful lane

  1. While it is best to stay in your lane, I believe it’s also important to learn from other people’s journey. There are people who have probably trodden the path before you and getting some tips without necessarily copying them can do wonders for our own journey.
